What is a Floral & Event Designer?

All photos by Lisa Brown of Bella Rose Photography
Because we are "Floral & Event Designers,"
we are sometimes asked,
"What is the difference between a traditional florist
and an event designer?"

As event designers, we design & decorate the entire event space
to create an overall style or theme.
To decorate the event space, we can use florals, design pieces,
 lighting, wall and ceiling hangings,
furniture and other accents.

For each table, we not only use floral designs,
but we also create tablescapes.

By now you may be thinking...
"Wait, you lost me at "tablescape! What is a "tablescape?!"
The world of event design can seem a little overwhelming,
especially since it has a vocabulary all its own!

 A "tablescape" is
the stylistic decorating of the entire table top.

We created this tablescape, shown in the photos above,
for the 2013 Landfall Wedding Show.

For a design that could be used for a New Year's Eve Wedding or Party,
we chose a classic elegant style with a touch of Hollywood glamour.
To achieve that effect, we used a pewter crinkle linen
and black chiavari chairs hung with silver pendants.
On the table we used florals in mercury glass vases, crystal votives,
and, for the statement centerpiece,
white ostrich feathers & ornamental plumes
in a tall mercury glass vase.

For the three floral designs at the base of the centerpiece,
we used white lilies, burgundy mums, pink spray roses,
dusty miller, and silver ting ting
in mercury glass mint julep vases.

The dinner plates were set on silver chargers.
(A "charger" is an elegant "tray" on which the dinner plate is set,
and is used for decorative purposes only.)
The eggplant napkins were folded and tucked under the charger
and topped with a decorative ornament,
our little piece de resistance,
a clock with its hands set at midnight!

The Three Divas Events
also offers our Special Event Cake service,
so we are able to design the perfect Wedding Cake
to compliment the overall design theme.
And of course, we ensure the cake is
as good as it looks!!!

Our other Tablescapes
at the Landfall Wedding Show
included...

Art Deco Inspired Theme

Dorothy Draper inspired candlesticks were
set on a silver & black damask linen overlay.

The florals were created with hot pink tulips,
white and star gazer lilies with mini green hydrangeas and lily grass.

Napkin ring decor was created from
diamond rhinestone ribbon.

Classic Vintage Glam

Classic red, white & black.

This tablescape was designed with a trio of mercury glass pillar holders, one filled with a red on red floral design of roses, spray roses and ranunculus.  To complete the look, we used black mosaic votives, silver chargers, damask napkins with a red spray rose accent, placed on black crinkle linens.
