A Designer Cake Fit for a Gala!

 

As The Dessert Divas, we were able to provide a cake for the 10th Annual New Hanover Regional Medical Center Founders Gala. This event was held to help raise money for the Betty Cameron Women's and Children's Hospital.

 

The gala was held on January 23, 2010 at

the Air Wilmington Hangar

The day before the Gala we went to the hangar to see how the design team was decorating the event site so that we could decorate the cake to reflect the color and theme of the event...

...and then we decorated the cake in an orange and turquoise mosaic design accented with rhinestones to reflect the colors of the bejeweled club atmosphere.

Jennifer was accessorized by Jess James, our local "Style Girl" to reflect the color and theme of the party!

 

 We were so pleased that Mayor Bill Saffo and Renee stopped by for a piece of cake and conversation!

 

"Party on the Moon"-a fabulous group from our home town of Atlanta-- got the party started!

"Stop in the name of Love!" but they didn't stop for 3 hours straight!!!
(and dancing in those heels non-stop!)

The Divas do Designer Desserts for the launch party of "Style Girl" Jess James' "FASHION FIX!"

It was our privilege to be a part of the team that 

"Style Girl" Jess James

put together to create the launch party for her

weekly E-Zine

"FASHION FIX"

 

 

Our first challenge was to create a Designer Dessert fashioned after

Jess' new logo created by graphic designer Lindsay Waltz of B Branded.

We were able to replicate Jess' familiar logo, 

a mother-of-pearl button that had belonged to Jess' Grandmother,

and apply them around the cake, adding a black fondant "ribbon" at the "hem" of each tier.

We created a cake topper out of sugar paste replicating the new logo,
pink & black flats with bows.

Jess asked us to do the party's event design 

and we began at the bar,

transforming it into a fashion themed display with our 

"Two-Bites" squares of  Praline & Chocolate Ganache, Margarita,

and both Chocolate and Vanilla Cake frosted with our

Signature Italian Buttercream.

Jess' launch party was held at Odessa, an event venue overlooking downtown Wilmington, owned by her friend and fashion partner, Shannon Dunne, of  "James + Dunne"

 Sitting in front of the mirrored stage backdrop we created,

Jennifer was modeling the "stylings" of Jess James.

Jennifer, the mother of two, said she had never felt so "hip!"

(She got to be the "Samantha Harris" for the evening!).

The Grand Finale was the unveiling of the

FAREWELL TO 2009!

A Wilmington Christmas is like none other,...

...only here on the coast can you wear your Christmas Flip-Flops!

And instead of "Snowmen" we have "Sandmen!"

And, as in every home where there are little ones, we experienced the delightful giggles as Stephen and Eve first saw their wrapped gifts, and then the happiness as they unwrapped each one.

By the end of the evening, we had a living room with a work bench and tools on one end,
and dolls and a kitchen on the other!

 

Here are some of our favorite Fall Cakes!

 

We love being the "Cake Ladies" for families, beginning with  

Shower Cakes, the very special Toddler Birthday cakes, to cakes that celebrate College Graduation!

The Turtle Cake for a Baby Shower was designed after the Nursery Quilt.

For this two year old's birthday, the theme was "Strawberry Shortcake!"
The little cake was for the birthday girl to get her little fingers into!
